Match Report Squad v Matlock Men Sunday 26^th March

After all the heavy rain it was touch and go if this match would go ahead at Matlock Golf Club. After heavy rain in the morning it eventually stopped and stayed dry the majority of the afternoon for our annual fixture which everyone looks forward to and our first friendly of the season.

The games are always competitive but played in the very best of spirits. This proved to be the case this year and there was a lot of friendly banter on the first tee and in the club house after.

The course was suffering the effects of the weather with one hole closed and 12 temporary greens, which proved to be difficult playing conditions for the Squad unlike Matlock men who seemed to be able to master the conditions, at half way many of the matches were very close but Matlock Men eventual beat us 7 ½ to 1 ½. Our win came from Debbie Deakin and Millie Mee 3/2. And a very respectable half point from Cat Russell & Lesley Watson. Debut appearances for the squad this year came from Claire Wallhead Tapton Park, Kelly Thring Chesterfield and Alyson Connell Horsley Lodge. 

Millie Mee and Summer Smith both junior girls had both played 2^nd team matches last season but there was a first Squad appearance for another junior Olivia Streets who partnered IPC Mel Prime and taking their match to the 18^th losing out on the last putt. It was great to watch their golf and for them to make themselves available for the ladies squad.

My thanks go to Matlock Golf Club and Captain Mark Maruzzi. Also, thanks to Paul Mooney for organising a competitive and sporting opposition. Final thanks go to Judy Gascoigne and Shelagh Lancaster for staffing and organising the fantastic half way house, it was very much appreciated by all.
