Derbyshire v Shropshire at Market Drayton GC
Tuesday 25 July 2023 Match Report
Team List 1) Catrin Russell 2) Chloe Searson-Best 3) Millie Mee 4) Libby Harrison 5) Claire Wallhead 6) Sandra Maxwell Reserves: Fiona Roberts (Travelling)
This was the away match following a hard-fought drawn home match. Although the team had a few changes we were still able to travel with a strong squad thanks to the depth of experienced and young players that we currently have. On the day Market Drayton presented us with a full range of weather and an interesting golf course with some very quirky holes. Having consumed a beautiful breakfast cob/roll/bap…etc the foursomes were dispatched. First result in was the new pairing of Cat and Claire a win (4/2). Next result was unfortunately a loss for Chloe and Millie. So, the morning matches were all down to the pair that I sent out first, Libby and Sandra. I knew it was close match and it ended up being all square heading down the 18th (Libby really does like to get her monies worth on a course). 2 great drives down the 18th were followed by 2 second shots not on the green. The Derbyshire ball was just short of the green and it was up to Libby to get it close in order to make sure we got no less than a half. Well, unfortunately she failed to do this…as she chipped in for the win which meant we could go into the afternoon matches 2-1 up.
With the afternoon order finalised over lunch the matches began. Walking round all of the matches I was treated to some fantastic golf on both sides. Our new team member Claire got us off to a fantastic start with a great win. This was followed by a loss for Sandra despite her best battling and then wins for our 2 juniors Chloe and Millie. A very close match resulted in a loss for Cat and yet again Libby took it to the 18th for the half.
The overall result is a fantastic win for Derbyshire 5.5 – 3.5.
Well done to all and as they say our fate is in our hands
