Handicap Match - Derbyshire Girls vs Staffordshire Girls – 30th May 2023 – Mickleover Golf Club
Match Report
Our first match of the season was against Staffordshire at Mickleover Golf Club. On arrival, Jemima was tucking into a big breakfast and everyone was excited about the day, not least Dot, our mascot!
We all knew the course pretty well which helped in our favour, and we all started with positive energy, like always! The rain managed to stay away too which made the match much more enjoyable, but it proved to be a tricky encounter as it soon emerged we were giving away a lot of shots in every match except Jemima’s
Jemima teed off first against Izzie making a positive start being 3 up at the turn. She was very resilient and carried it to the last to halve her match. Gabby was second out against Mia and although she showed her usual determination to keep the match tight, lost 4&3 on the 15th. I was 3rd to tee off and played against Sophie in another very tight match. Disappointingly, I lost after being all square going down the last. Summer played some brilliant golf in the 4th match, but she too was defeated on the last, very frustrating to say how well she had played. In the final match, though, Erin played consistently well throughout the match to defeat Ryka 6 and 5 – a brilliant victory!
The overall result was 3 ½ – 1 ½ to Staffordshire
Although it was a disappointing finish, it was still a very enjoyable day, and some great golf was played out on the course with some great determination especially with the fact that we had to give shots to all but one of their players. Well done girls!
