Staffordshire V’s Derbyshire – Sunday 8^th May at Aston Wood GC 

This was our first competitive match of the season away at Aston Wood Golf Club on the outskirts of Sutton Coldfield and we were treated with a warm and sunny day. The course was flat with some tricky water hazards, firm fairways and reasonably fast greens but overall in good condition. 

Isobel led the team out playing against Caitlin and started strong leading 3 up after 9 holes and eventually winning 2up. Summer also started the front 9 well in her match against Ruby and soon got to 2up. She kept the momentum going winning 2&1. Olivia was unstoppable in her match against Amelia winning convincingly 7&6. In my match I played against Lilia and also started well getting to 4 up through 8 holes but Lilia played some great golf and clawed the match back to draw level after 17. We halved the last to draw our match. The final game between Daisy and Kennedy proved a close match. After being 1 down on the front 9 Daisy pulled the game back to win the points for the team. Gabby playing in a reserve match came home with a 2&1 win. 

The majority of the team were playing against Staffordshire girls with lower handicaps and more experience so to win the match convincingly 4.5 – 0.5 was a brilliant result. Well done Derbyshire!
