Today saw Derbyshire Under 18s travel to Ladbrook Park to take on a Strong Warwickshire side in their second outing of the season.

The boys looking in good spirits whilst warming up, in preparation of the task ahead and there was a real sense of togetherness in the air lead by the inspirational Manager Dean Hibbert.
The morning foursomes got underway with Quinn and Gavin going out against Channon and Finn with the Warwickshire boys taking an early lead.
Next up was Shearer and Taylor who are really starting to show a great connection together, they had the test of Oliver and Louie whom were both members of the course and they too found themselves down early on.
James and Jacob had moved up the order from their last performance and they were matched with Ryan and Josh who are an established pairing for their county.
Gabe and Zach were next to take the stage a new pairing against Lennon and Tom, on paper this was one that you'd expect to go all the way and It was great to the Derbyshire boys get straight on the front foot in this one.
The final pairing of the day was Ollie and Harry who both look really comfortable with each other in only their second match, they were up against a strong pairing of Sam and Charlie with demonstrated the tremendous strength in depth both sides have.
Through 6 all was to play for as Derbyshire found themselves down in the first three pairing and up in the last two, the boys were in for a stern test and on the homeward stretch the games were changing hands by the minute, at one point Derbyshire looked to be heading for a strong 4-1 half time advantage but within 15 minute it had suddenly shifted into Warwickshire favour.
The opening group of Quinn and Gavin eventually seeing their game out by winning 17 and 18 for a two up victory, Shearer and Taylor had been right in it all the way but lost of 17 with a bit of course knowledge favouring the opponents.
Next to finish was James and Jacob after an excellent approach by James at 16 took a real unfortunate kick into the bunker the boys were unable to continue their fightback and shook hands at 3-2, Derbyshire were now losing 2-1 but were up in both the last two games, nothing could be taken for granted today and with Gabe making a great putt at 16 the Derbyshire boys walked to the tee at 17, 2 up and 2 to play, unfortunately the Warwickshire lads fought hard and managed to claw the match back by winning the last two holes. Derbyshire now needed a point in the last game to be level going into the singles and the Anchormen of Ollie and Harry knew exactly how to deliver with a very impressive 3-2 win.
It was now onto the singles and looking down the order, as tight as it appeared there was a level of optimism in the Derbyshire camp, the mood was good and the boys looked ready.
Quinn went up against Finn in the first group and with his first tee shot taking a horrible kick right it put the Warwickshire man in commanding position from the off, one which he would retain through the match even against the efforts of the Derbyshire lad finally seeing the game out after 14.
In the second game Gavin took on Ryan with this one twisting and turning throughout before eventually arriving on the 18th green all square, eventually only a huge putt from the Warwickshire lad preventing Derbyshire taking the spoils and the game finished in stalemate.
Taylor was up third and had already stated his intent to avenge is 6/5 loss last year to the same opponent Channon, Taylor started in emphatic style and was soon in a commanding position 3 up through 8, the Derbyshire lad put in a true captain's performance sealing a victory on 13 with ironically the same score as he had suffered 12 months earlier winning 6 and 5.
James was next up against Oliver a game which would be as intriguing as predicted, this would go all the way with the lead changing hands frequently, into the last few holes James was s man on a mission and even though he was 1 down it was never going to stay that way, coming down the last Derbyshire were 1 up but as had happened so many times today the 18th hole proved to be a good one for Warwickshire and they managed to half the match.
In the next match Shearer was up against Josh, two good players, Josh went ahead early on but this is a new invigorated Shearer and he doesn't give up, at the turn he had pulled it back to 1 and was fighting hard, again course knowledge was playing a part and try as he might the Derbyshire team suffered another defeat on 15.
With the first 5 groups finished it was all still to play for with the scores 5.5-4.5 in Warwickshire favour but Derbyshire up in 3 and down in 2 of the remaining games.
Harry was next to finish his game, his day will definitely come and isn't too far away from clicking with a great neversaydie attitude that he's now adopted, today he missed out to Charlie through 13.
Derbyshire needed to 3 lads to now hold their advantage and hope the 4th could turn in our favour.
Jacob was next in against Louie, Jacob had looked in complete control throughout being 4 up at one stage, but this is Matchplay and momentum is huge, Jacob held the lead until 16 and coming down the last was A/S, again the 18th would be our nemesis with Warwickshire taking the lead for the first time in the game and sealing a win.
Derbyshire now needed 3 from 3 to draw.
Zach was now on the homeward stretch against Lennon having stroked the ball around well all day, Zach would prove to be a worthy winner holing out on 17 for 2/1 victory.
Still out there was Gabe and Ollie, the last we had seen was Gabe was 2 down through 13 and Ollie was 1 up through the same point.
Could we do it again!!! Could we pull the unthinkable off!!!
As all the squad stood around the 17th fairway there was excitement as Gabe approached the 17th tee, his games, still alive, what's the score?? Everyone was asking.
As Gabe came down the fairway communication came through he had fought valiantly but was 2 down with 2 to play, his game against Tom would soon draw to a close with Warwickshire winning on the 17th. Down but certainly not out, the Derbyshire boys, everyone of them to a man cheered vigorously as Ollie screamed on down the middle at 17 and hit a great approach shot into the green, there really are an incredible bunch, their spirit throughout was a joy to watch and demonstrated none so more in Ollies determination to still close his game out down 18, again only for the hole to favour Warwickshire once more and another victory on the last for Sam.

End score was 9.5 to 5.5 to Warwickshire, Derbyshire should take pride in the whole squad today as their attitude, Application and support for each other was immense throughout.
