Derbyshire County Golf

John Flanders

It is with great sadness that DCG inform members of the passing of John Flanders, on Tuesday 1st September, aged 90.
He was the Derbyshire President in 2007/8, the first chairman of the then English Golf Union for a period of 11 years
before becoming President of the English Golf Union in 2000. He was the driving force behind the acquisition
and development of The National Golf Centre at Woodhall Spa and one of two Honorary Members of England Golf.
John was also Past President of the Midland Golf Union 1980/85 and winner of the Gerald Micklem Award in 2002.
He joined the DUGC Executive in 1965 and was Derbyshire County Captain from 1967 to 1969 and again in 1978.
A recognised "fine golfer in his time", his legacy will long be remembered.
Our thoughts at this time are with his family and friends.
