Sam won the Birkdale goblets on day one with rounds of 68 and 69 at the 2026 Open venue [-7 total]. He followed this up with a runner-up spot the next day at Hillside after rounds of 69 and 72 (-3) to take the 72 hole title by 4 shots from Greg Holmes (Royal Birkdale).
Sam has now reduced his handicap index to PLUS 5.3 as a result of a scoring average of 68 in his last 13 rounds which includes a 65 at Hoylake in the British Amateur, two 66s on the same day at Trentham, 66 at Droitwich and a 66 at Kedleston.
Antony Plummer also had a good weekend in the North West finishing 8th overall with a 3 over par total of 291.
