County Ladies Second Team Report

Derbyshire v Shropshire at Shifnal Golf Club Tuesday 20^th July 2021

Our second away match and we were very much looking for a win. The weather was very hot, in fact probably the hottest of the year so far. On the advice of our Vice Captain elect, Deb Eaglefield, I got to the Co-Op at Shifnal at 7am to buy up a good selection of their energy drinks. The team were certainly going to need them.

Shifnal is a lovely parkland course with plenty of shade. County Captain Janet, President Cynthia and I were certainly grateful for this as the day wore on. The morning foursomes ended in 1 ½ points for each county. Sandra Maxwell and Grace Harrison are fast becoming our Molinari/Fleetwood pairing of the second team. The newly named Harrimax (or Haribo, considering their love of the sweets!) secured their second foursomes win of the year against a very strong Shropshire pair. Libby Harrison and Lesley Watson earned us a very hard fought ½ point.

When we began the afternoon singles the temperature was well over 30 degrees. Lorraine Proudler was out first. She was always going to have a tough time, playing a +3 golfer on her own course. There were wins however for Sandra Maxwell, Grace Harrison and Jenna Ward who was playing in her first County Second Team match. The final game was crucial as it became the difference between a win and a halved match overall. Lesley Watson battled through to the 18^th green to secure the ½ point we needed.

Well done team. I was very proud of you all. Thanks also to Janet and Cynthia for their support.

We have the home matches to look forward to now.
