Match:                 Derbyshire v Cheshire

Venue:                 Cavendish Golf Club

Date:                   Sunday 24th March 2019.

As we all gathered at Cavendish for our first get together and formal match of the season it was clear it was going to be a cold and windy day. Despite that, Janet and I were warmly greeted by Cavendish management, the professional and Lady Captain, Linda. 

Thanks to Derbyshire President Paul for acting as official starter for the match, watched carefully by Cynthia who will be learning the ropes for next year no doubt. 

Also keeping a watchful and I think motherly eye on proceedings were Shelagh and Judy.  Great to have them with us.  It makes Janet and me feel confident when we have them around. 

Some excellent shots from the first tee followed by very good play on both sides. It was clearly going to be a challenging day, but everyone was so positive, and we aimed for the Derbyshire win. 

A great putt on the 17^th by Debs Deakin ensured that she and Catrin put the first score on the board for Derbyshire.  A solid win to start us off. 

Alison and Carol pulled off a great win against a steady Cheshire pairing, so Derbyshire were feeling a little confident by now. 

Sian and Beth fought hard to pull the score back but ran out of holes sadly and Cheshire were now only 2 – 1 down.

 The last match of new pairing Debs Eaglefield and Sarah Lundy kept us all on tenterhooks and going down the 18^th one down.  Sadly, the hole was drawn which meant the whole match was an overall draw. 

All in all, a good result for Derbyshire to hold Cheshire to a draw. 

Thanks to everyone for their efforts on the day and to our merry band of supporters.  Thanks especially to Janet T for keeping me sane and to Cavendish Golf Club for hosting the match.  An excellent day.
