Under 18s Derbyshire vs Shropshire and Herefordshire

Venue: Mickleover Golf Club

Date: 14th July 2019

3rd win for the under 18s sets up season finale

Mickleover GC played host to the Under 18s for their third league match of the season against a slightly weakened Shropshire and Herefordshire team.

Derbyshire were off to a quick start in the morning foursomes, with another comfortable win for our top pairing of Sam Potter and Daniel Heaslip, and wins on the 17th for Max Hughes/Jack Barker-Sabido, Ben Wain/Tom Weeks, and Harvey Sands/Louie Cole. The only match to go the 18th saw Matt Pepper/Tommy Allen gain a great half by winning the last hole.

The singles saw all the matches close after 9 holes but Derbyshire Boys pulled away on the back 9 holes and there were wins for Dan Heaslip, Tommy Allen, Max Hughes, Jack Barker-Sabido, Tom Weeks, Harvey Sands and Louie Cole, with a half for Matt Pepper, meaning we emerged as 12-3 winners overall. This gives the team maximum points going in to next Saturday’s decider against Staff away at Great Barr.

A great day for the lads was further added to by a manic hour and a half as both teams watched the cricket and tennis reach their finales on the TVs in the clubhouse.

Both captains commented on the quality of the course and thanked the greenstaff and catering staff My thanks also go to current and past County Presidents, Paul Longden, John Rawson and Tony Broadhurst who turned out to support, to Paul Smith for his support throughout the day and, as ever, to the parents, without whom none of these experiences would be possible.
