Under 14s v Staffordshire 26th April
The first match of our season saw a visit to Uttoxeter Golf Club to do battle with Staffordshire.
For a number of players this was their first time representing the county and a warm welcome was extended to Gavin Ingram, Adam Gentles, Harry Dornford and Cameron Wood.
The matches were all fairly tight, with Captain Jacob Kenworthy and his partner Gavin Ingram winning the first match on the 18th Green.
Quinn Tinkler took on the role of mentoring Adam Gentles in his first County Match and despite losing 2&1 they both played well.
Shearer Chohan and Harry Dornford struggled against a strong pair but again there was some promising golf played.
In what was a pairing of possibly the most talkative of our players, Olly Neal, and the quietest, Josh Stephens, this worked really well. Olly Neal made a really good par on 16 to stop a minor comeback from Staffs and Josh closed the game with a net par on 17.
The final pairing of Matt Edwards and Cameron Wood took the last game as far as the 16th but lost out again to some good golf.
All in all this match was always a learning experience with new players and a new season. Uttoxeter is a course where there are a number of blind holes and clearly local knowledge is at a premium.
Thanks to Paul Smith for his help on the day, and we now look forward to our next match against Worcestershire.
