Match Report Squad v Cheshire
Sunday 20th March at Stockport Golf Club
What a relief to finally get this fixture played after a couple of years of it having to be cancelled, a combination of Covid 19 and poor weather. The weather on the day was bright and cold. Preferred lies through the green was thought to be the fairest ruling for both teams. Working out shots for the matches proved to be the hardest task of the day and I’m not sure that the Cheshire Captain and I did that with total success.
The Cheshire team was very strong, packed with very young and very low handicap players. The results of three of the games were decided on the 18th green with two halves achieved by Deb Deakin and her partner Sarah Lundy and Deb Eaglefield and her partner Grace Harrison. Lesley Watson and Mel Davey walked off the 18th green 1 up. There was a convincing win for Libby Harrison and Jenna Ward, 4 and 3. The final result was a 3-1 win for Derbyshire.
A great start to the season for the Derbyshire squad. There was some fantastic golf played and the team really had to fight hard to compete with the strength of the Cheshire players. I certainly saw some clutch putts holed at important points in the games.
Thanks to Stockport Golf Club for hosting. The team commented on how much they had enjoyed the course and the food. Also, thanks to County President Cynthia for her support and to everyone else who made the journey to encourage the team.
