Derbyshire Ladies Squad v Warwickshire Ladies – Sunday 2 May 2021 at Chevin Golf Club

County Week is fast approaching and the annual pre-season match against the Warwickshire ladies gives both Counties a great opportunity to play County Week format, namely 2 x foursomes followed immediately by 3 x singles matches in the morning and afternoon.

It was great to see our new players in County kit – just arrived.  The morning four-somes matches were so awfully close with a half for Catrin Russell and Debbie Deakin and a 1 down loss for Sian and Mel Davey.    The singles matches saw a great 2 ½ win Sarah Lundy, Hannah Morrison and Imogen Rafferty fighting for a half – so resulting in a 3/2 Win for Derbyshire. 

The afternoon match saw 2 losses in the foursomes – Catrin and Libby Harrison fought hard but had a loss and, again Sian and Mel so remarkably close with a 1 down score.  Our singles were well fought 2 ½ win - Sarah and Grace Harrison with a half for Imogen.  So, a 2 ½ / 2 ½ draw for the afternoon but an overall WIN for Derbyshire 5 ½ / 4 ½! 

Many thanks to Chevin for the hospitality shown by their staff and an excellent course – there were plenty of unlucky bounces with the fairways being so hard and dry like all clubs, but the rain forecast will be a blessing and relief for all our green keepers.  The superb lunch and afternoon refreshments were most welcome to all the ladies and both County and Vice Captains needed hot drinks to thaw out – it is very cold on a buggy!

Our next pre-season match is against the County Senior Ladies at Alfreton on Sunday 23 May 2.00pm where we hope to reclaim the Claret Jug kindly donated by Shelagh Lancaster in her year as County Captain.
