This was potentially the last match of the season for the 2nd team. A win or a drawn match would see us through to the MNR Finals. A loss and that would be the 2nd team season over. Our opposition fielded a strong team, several of whom were members at the re-designed Whittington Heath course so we knew it would be a close-run match. As always, the foursome matches got underway after breakfast cobs were consumed. All matches were closely watched by Cynthia and me and I’d like to think that it was thanks to our wonderful ‘supporters’ technique’ (nothing to do with our amazing golfers) that Team Derbyshire had a wonderful morning’s golf by coming in for lunch 2½ - ½ up.

We now just needed 2 points from the afternoon singles matches to get through to the final and luckily for our supporters’ nerves we got those 2 points from the early matches. Despite the rest of the team giving it their all, with some very close matches we ended up 4-2 down in the afternoon singles. However, on the day we achieved what needed to be done. Thanks to the fantastic support of all the players and supporters over all of the matches I am ‘well chuffed’ to be reporting that Derbyshire 2nds are going to the MNR Finals.
