Handicap League Match Derbyshire vs Lincolnshire

Monday 16th August 2021 at Trent Lock Golf & Country Club

After a two-year wait, it was a delight to be back at Trent Lock Golf Club for a very successful day at the inter county finals. After a warm-up on the range, with some of the scratch team members, us girls were ready to rip it up on the course. Teeing up first was Jemima Abbott in front of the largest crowd we have had watching all season. Though feeling the pressure, she managed to place her drive in position A! Jemima had a very strong start being +4 coming through nine but her playing partner managed to bring it black to all square on the back. However, Jemima did not let this dishearten her and snatched it back on 18, getting her point for the team. Next on the tee was myself, Team Captain Gabby Auld. After parring the first hole, I had a rough front nine, meaning the match was very back and forth. Although on the back nine I managed to pull my game together, winning a few holes in a row and winning my game 3 and 2. Third on the tee was Olivia Barker-Sabido, making her Derbyshire debut, after missing out on the last 2 matches because of isolation and her playing partner not showing up! Olivia had tough competition at Trent Lock but still maintained her calm attitude as always. She kept battling and placed a lot of by pressure on her Lincolnshire opponent but lost her match 3 and 2. Next on the tee, also making her Derbyshire debut, was Chloe Searson-Best. Chloe played some very good golf throughout her round and was even 5 up at one point! Even though Chloe’s partner tried to fight to bring it back, Chloe won the 16th, wining her first ever Derbyshire match 4 and 2. You should be very proud of yourself Chloe! Last, teeing up for the handicap team was Alicia White. Alicia is the reigning Derbyshire girls net champion after an amazing score the other week and was also making her Derbyshire match play debut. Alicia was up against a very strong, experienced player and unfortunately lost her match. Well done Alicia for keeping a positive, smiley attitude afterwards! Overall we beat Lincolnshire 3-2, sealing a strong 3rd place this season. Well done team! Well done for the great performances this year and let’s beat this next year and go for the win. After our matches we went and supported the scratch team, who, although beating them, they finished 2nd place in the league to Notts, with only 1.5 games separating it. Well done girls! Then we had a very comical game of crazy golf, which let’s just say isn’t a strength of ours and we should probably keep to playing normal golf! Well done as well to Claudia and Erin, the handicap team reserves, playing in the stableford and to the younger girls playing in the nine-hole event. Thank you to Trent Lock golf club for allowing us to use their great venue again and for the catering afterwards. As always, a large thank you to Alice and Eleanor, for not just today, but for all their support throughout the season. Don’t know what us Derbyshire girls would do without organisers like you! A big thank you to the parents for their great support and taxiing around all season and to other Derbyshire organisers who have supported us throughout. It has been a wonderful season for us all, for not just the amazing golf we have played and the amounts of progress we have all made but for the team spirit we have shown and the great friendships we have built with each other. Well done girls again! See you all at Chesterfield GC for the fun day!
